Patios, Paths, and Foundations

What kinds of structures do concrete contractors create? They are often hired to pour foundations. Whether it's a basement or a slab foundation, concrete is the way to go. Another common job is pouring patios. A concrete patio is nice and durable, and it also looks nice. Then, there are the smaller projects: concrete stairs, pathways, planting boxes, and more. You don't have to be a concrete contractor to learn about these services. In fact, this blog is written for everyone, and no matter who you are, it will teach you more about concrete work and the people who do it.

Explore some popular concrete products that can be used to improve your residential property. Concrete can be used to construct patios, walkways, walls, and columns.

Precast Concrete

Molds and a low-pressure steam kiln are used to manufacture precast concrete. A sealer is often applied to the concrete. The sealer will protect concrete products from moisture. Precast concrete is suited for manufacturing pillars, patio slabs, foundations, and other large structural materials.

Because precast concrete is manufactured off-site, a contractor will not need to prepare wet concrete. Instead, they can order the precast products that you prefer and have them delivered to your property. Acquiring precast concrete is convenient and will allow you to complete a hardscape project in a timely manner.

Concrete Molds

Concrete molds can be prepared on your property. A contractor will set the molds up, then install rebar or another reinforcement material within each mold. Lastly, they will pour fresh concrete into each mold.

Concrete molds can be used to construct patio slabs and custom concrete materials. A contractor can use a pigment product to add color to any custom hardscape materials that you select. Concrete stamps can be used to add a textured design to any custom pieces that you have chosen.

A contractor will apply a sealant to concrete products after they cure. The sealant will be brushed or rolled across the service of the concrete.

Pavers

Concrete pavers include interlocking and non-interlocking products. Pavers can be used to construct intricate walkways, patios, fire pits, and retaining walls. Concrete pavers are readily available for purchase at many home centers or landscaping retailers.

Pavers are relatively inexpensive and offer a convenient way to add hardscape features to a property. Each paver will need to be carefully installed. If pavers will be covering the ground, a contractor will need to grade the land first. If you choose pavers that feature a non-interlocking design, a filling agent can be used to cover gaps between pavers.

Accent Materials

Gravel, decorative stones, and bricks can be used to accent hardscape surfaces. Loose gravel or stones can be added around bushes, flowering plants, and other foliage that is located next to a new concrete surface. Loose aggregates can also be used to complement concrete slabs or pavers.

Bricks will contrast well with fresh concrete. A contractor can use bricks to create a decorative border around other hardscape materials. Bricks come in many sizes, shapes, and textures. Masonry cement or mortar is often used to anchor brick pieces.
