Patios, Paths, and Foundations

What kinds of structures do concrete contractors create? They are often hired to pour foundations. Whether it's a basement or a slab foundation, concrete is the way to go. Another common job is pouring patios. A concrete patio is nice and durable, and it also looks nice. Then, there are the smaller projects: concrete stairs, pathways, planting boxes, and more. You don't have to be a concrete contractor to learn about these services. In fact, this blog is written for everyone, and no matter who you are, it will teach you more about concrete work and the people who do it.

Common Questions About Having Business Parking Lots Paved

Freddie Andrews

If you own a business that has a parking lot, then at some point or another, you are going to need to have your parking lot paved. In most areas, there are several parking lot paving companies to choose from. You can start by getting a quote, and then if you are happy with the price quoted, you can hire the company to pave your lot. You may, however, have some questions about paving that come up along the way. Keep reading to discover the answers.

Is asphalt really better than concrete?

In some ways, concrete does make a better parking lot material than pavement. It is harder and lasts longer. However, making a concrete parking lot costs significantly more than making an asphalt parking lot. For most businesses, it's just not affordable and feasible to have a concrete parking lot made. Asphalt is durable enough for most businesses and is far easier to afford and have poured.

Will the pavers have to remove your existing lot first?

Yes. If you are having your parking lot re-paved, that process will begin with the paving contractors breaking up and removing the existing asphalt pavement. Pouring asphalt over an existing lot will only cause the new asphalt to crumble and deteriorate prematurely.

Why can't the pavers sealcoat the pavement right away?

Typically when you hire a company to pave your lot, they will come pour the asphalt and then schedule another appointment, a few months down the road, to come sealcoat the lot. The lot cannot be sealcoated sooner than this because the asphalt needs time to thoroughly cure and harden before the sealcoating is applied. If it is applied too soon, you may get bubbles of moisture under the sealcoating, and your lot may deteriorate prematurely.

How long do you have to wait before using your parking lot?

In most cases, you will have to avoid using the lot for two or three days after it is paved. For this reason, most business owners choose to have their lots paved on the weekends. This way, they can close on Friday and open the lot again by Tuesday. Of course, you can schedule your paving work according to your own business schedule and needs.

With these questions having been answered, you should feel better prepared to have your business's parking lot paved. If you have any other questions, contact a parking lot paving contractor.
