Patios, Paths, and Foundations

What kinds of structures do concrete contractors create? They are often hired to pour foundations. Whether it's a basement or a slab foundation, concrete is the way to go. Another common job is pouring patios. A concrete patio is nice and durable, and it also looks nice. Then, there are the smaller projects: concrete stairs, pathways, planting boxes, and more. You don't have to be a concrete contractor to learn about these services. In fact, this blog is written for everyone, and no matter who you are, it will teach you more about concrete work and the people who do it.

Concrete Pumping Is A Good Way To Pour Concrete For Residential And Commercial Uses

Freddie Andrews

Concrete pumping is a convenient way to pour concrete for a residential or commercial construction project. It's also a way to get concrete in an area that's difficult to reach. There may be projects around your property, such as putting in concrete floors, laying a foundation for a detached garage, or putting in hardscapes when you'll need a concrete pumping truck. Here's how concrete pumping is done.

Choose The Method

There are a couple of ways to pump concrete. One is a line pump that stays on the ground like a big hose. The other is a boom pump that attaches to a boom so the concrete can be pumped into an upper level. For residential use, your concrete contractor may use a line pump unless the concrete hose has to go over the top of your house or over the street to reach the backyard.

A line pump might be mounted on a big truck, but since space is often tight in residential areas, the contractor might bring a trailer-mounted pump instead that's much smaller and can get closer to the work area. The hose from a concrete pump is long, so it can go in your backyard and even snake through your house.

Pour The Concrete

Pouring concrete from a pump is fairly easy. The contractor puts the hose where the concrete needs to be poured out and the concrete mix flows from the hose. The concrete mix is supplied by a mixer truck. The mixer truck dumps wet concrete into the hopper and the pump sends the mix through the hose.

Just like all types of concrete, the mix that comes from the hose will get hard fairly fast, so if you want to stamp or color the concrete, you'll need to work quickly before the concrete gets hard.

Enjoy The Convenience

Concrete pumping makes working with concrete much easier. It's often difficult to get a mixer truck close enough to dump concrete where it needs to go. The concrete from a mixer is emptied down a chute that's usually much shorter than a pump hose. That could mean you'll need to work with a wheelbarrow to move the concrete around and that's a lot of work. It's not really practical unless you're dealing with a small amount of concrete.

The other alternative is to mix your own concrete from dry materials. This is a lot of work too if you're building a foundation. Plus, when you mix concrete by the bag, it's difficult to get consistent mixes. Having ready mix delivered and then poured by concrete pumping is a quick and convenient way to get concrete to your backyard or other places a mixer truck can't reach easily.
